A Wonderful Invention

THE PENCIL

This is one of the oldest and most used invent but we don't know anything about its past.

All started in Cumberland, England in 1564 when the graphite was discovered and started to be used for writting. Then, the graphite was taken to France and used in the Luis XIII's court.

In 1792 the french enginer Jacques-Nicolas Conte designed a pencil with graphite and clay and used wood to cover it. Then, the pencil was taken all the world.

In 1812 the American Winlliam Monroe perfectedthe process using only graphite and wood. In the last decade of the XX century, Brasil became like one of the principal producer of pencils in the world, they produce 4.500.000.000 pencils by year.
